Mary B. Amick
RUPERT — Mary B. Amick, 77, of Pocahontas Street, Rupert, W.Va., passed away Friday afternoon, May 2, 2008, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a long illness.
Born June 29, 1930, at Carl, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Burton and Lily Branchie Pittsenbarger Conard.
She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a homemaker. Mary loved spending time with her family, gardening, and listening to George Jones, her favorite country singer.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Osby Amick, in 1969; her companion, Grover Sanford, in 1981; three sisters, Maple Crocker, Joyce Anderson, and Madeline Overstreet; and her four brothers, Guy, Frank, Benton, and Billy Conard.
Mary’s family would like to acknowledge and show their appreciation for the tender and loving care given to her by her daughter, Wendi Sanford. They are also very grateful for the care shown to Mrs. Amick by her caregivers, Linda Barker and Kevin Grose.
Survivors include three daughters, Luticia Hager of Rupert, W.Va., Lisa Russell of Rupert, W.Va., and Wendi Sanford of Rupert; a son, Rodney Amick and wife Angie of Rupert; a sister, Margaret Heaster of Keiffer; five grandchildren, William and wife April, April, Logan, Isaiah, and James; and a great-grandchild, Shannon.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Wallace and Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Rev. Robert Nolen officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Mrs. Rosa Bright, 68, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Beckley, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, in Memorial Hospital, Colorado Springs, Colo.

OCEANA — James Clarence Brunk, 55, of Oceana, W.Va., passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Ra-leigh General Hospital.

LEWISBURG — Merl W. Carver, 67, of Lewisburg, died Saturday, May 3, 2008.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Lewisburg. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church.

James Arvin Dwiggins
DAMERON — James Arvin Dwiggins, 49, of Lower Sandlick Road, Dameron, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at his home.
Born on Nov. 21, 1958, in West Palm Beach, Fla., he was the son of Rosalee McGraw Lowe of Sarasota, Fla., and the late James William Dwiggins.
James was a 1976 graduate of Mullens High School and he worked as an Environmental Well Driller for Ardamen and Associates of Sarasota, Fla.
Other than his mother, survivors include his daughters, Jenifer Myers and husband Glenn of Bluefield, W.Va., Feena Dwiggins with the U.S. Navy, Crystal Dwiggins of Summerdale, Ala., and Alexis Dwiggins of South Charleston; a son, Samuel Dwiggins of Asheville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Dana Myers, Stephen Barna, and Christopher Raysean; two sisters, Eugenia Petty and husband Tom of Dunnellon, Fla., and Jamie Turnmire and husband William of Sarasota, Fla.; and stepmother, Elizabeth Dwiggins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today, May 5, 2008, in the Melton Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. William Calhoun officiating.
Friends may call this ev-ening from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
The family requests that donations of sympathy be made to Melton Mortuary in James’ name.

Margaret Allen Kay Scott
GRANDVIEW — Margaret Allen Kay Scott, age 89, of Grandview, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Raleigh Center, following a lengthy illness.
Born July 19, 1918, in Beckley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Kerr Kay and Rosa Kay Brown.
She was a descendant of the Kay and Laing families, Scottish immigrants, who helped open the Royal Coal and Coke Co. Mine on New River in 1891. Royal was Raleigh County’s first coal mine.
Mrs. Scott graduated from Trap Hill High School in 1937.
Before her declining health, she was active in the Beckley Shepherd Center where she served as President, Grandview Christian Church, Raleigh County Library, Republican Committee, New River Livestock Market, Raleigh County Armory, Board of Directors at Little Beaver State Park, and worked many summers in the gift shop at Grandview State Park.
She also served on the Raleigh County Board of Education from July 5, 1994, until July 20, 2004.
She married the late Minor Lee Scott on Nov. 11, 1939. Together they owned and operated the Grandview Hereford Farm for 63 years.
Besides her late husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Kay Scott; and three sisters, Mary Hicks, Edith Felton, and Helen Evans.
Survivors include four children, Lee Allen Scott Sr. and wife Myrah of Chapel Hill, N.C., Rebecca Scott Patterson and husband Don of Washington, Iowa, Kenneth Minor Scott and wife, Jo, of Grandview, and Sarah Scott Noel of Beckley. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Carol Goodman Scott of Lynchburg, Va.; a sister, Jean Jennings and husband, Kie, of Ballinger, Texas; 15 grandchildren, Ashley Scott Agard (Marty) of Alpharetta, Ga., Stephanie Scott Ranson (Tim) of Huntersville, N.C., Lee A. Scott Jr. of Fairfax, Calif., Brian Scott (Linette) of Rocklin, Calif., Keith Scott (Roxanna) of Lewisville, Texas, Eric Scott (Amy) of Mechanicsville, Va., Matthew Patterson (Tenessa) of Raleigh, N.C., James Patterson and Steven Patterson of Washington, Iowa, Andrea Scott Lester (J.D.) of Shady Spring, Drew Scott (Toni) of Woodbridge, Calif., Christopher Scott of Grandview, Jennifer Noel of Mabscott, Lindsey Noel Lucas (Cameron) of Beckley, and Kimberly Noel of Grandview; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Wed-nesday, May 7, 2008, at 11 a.m., at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Scottie Richmond and Oscar Schwi-tzerlette officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may gather with the family Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to Grandview Christian Church Building Fund, 185 Table Rock Road, Beaver, WV 25813.
Margaret will always be remembered for her laughter and her love for her family and friends. She never met a stranger.

Ray Charles Stewart
Ray Charles Stewart, 62, of Piney View, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 2, 2008, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, after a courageous battle with lung disease.
Born Feb. 14, 1946, at Gatewood, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Henry and Lucy Mayes Stewart.
Before Ray fell ill, he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and many friends. He especially cherished his time with his two dear grandchildren. He was of the Christian faith. This year on March 10, Ray and his wife were married 42 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Green.
Those left to cherish his memories include his wife, Priscilla Stewart of Piney View; his son, James Stewart and wife Lola of Crab Orchard; his daughter, Michelle Fry and husband Dwayne; their two children, Jessica Dawn and Charles Tyler, his two grandchildren, all of Piney View; two sisters, Kathleen Aliff and husband Mark of Mossy and Dolly Simpson and husband Robert of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Lee Allen Stewart of Oak Hill; a very special friend, Danny Hill of Piney View; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ray will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends in whom he touched every life greatly. A very special thanks to Dr. E.J. Salon of Beckley and all other care givers for all their loving care and all that they have done for Ray and his wife, Priscilla.
Services will be held today, May 5, 2008, at 12 p.m., at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Cecil Smith officiating. There will be no graveside service.
Friends may gather with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to his widow, Priscilla Stewart.

MOUNT NEBO — Robin Lynn Tyree, 44 years of age, of Mount Nebo, died Thursday, May 1, 2008.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at 11 a.m., in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville. Friends may call at the funeral chapel one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

June Marie Whitlow
GHENT — June Marie Whitlow, age 76, of Ghent, W.Va., died Friday, May 2, 2008, at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., following a long illness.
Born on April 21, 1932, at Eskdale, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Bowyer and Dixie Moore Bowyer.
Mrs. Whitlow was a retired beautician and was a member of the Westview Missionary Baptist Church at Odd.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Lewis Bowyer.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence Glen Whitlow; sons, Clarence Glen Whitlow Jr. of Ghent, W.Va., Thomas Lee Whitlow and wife Margaret of Ghent, W.Va., John Albert Whitlow of Sharon, W.Va., and Thomas Jeffrey Whitlow of Ghent, W.Va.; a daughter, Debra Blackwell and husband Rodney of Monticello, Miss.; brothers, Bill Bowyer of Sharon, W.Va., and Jack Bowyer of Madison, W.Va.; grandchildren, Amy, Jason, Charlie, Steven, Ashley, and Jimmy; great-grandchildren, Veronica, Vanessa, and Braxton; and special niece and caregiver, Linda Pauley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Westview Missionary Baptist Church at Odd, W.Va., with the Rev. Paul Holstein officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashworth Cemetery at Ghent, W.Va.
Friends may call at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel from 6 to 9 p.m. today and at the church one hour prior to services.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
