Lucy Delilah Jones Borders
Lucy Delilah Jones Borders, of 103 Missouri Ave., Beckley, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at her residence following a long illness.

Wilma L. Bushey
AKRON, Ohio —- Wilma L. Bushey, 76, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008.
Born in Beaver on Sept. 29, 1931, Wilma moved to Akron at the age of 20.
She worked at Ohio Edison where she met her husband, James Bushey. He preceded her in death in March 1988.
She retired from Green Cross (Cuyahoga Falls General) Hospital where she worked in the emergency room and lab. She was a member of St. Martha Church and Al Anon Group.
She is survived by her children, Karen Bushey of Akron, Sharon (Larry) Nolan of Tallmadge, Ohio, Gary (Deborah) Bushey of Powell, Ohio, and Dale (Remza) Bushey of Brentwood, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Kristen Nolan, Kelli Jones, Lisa, Lauren, Danielle and Clayton Bushey. She will also be missed by her three surviving brothers, Jack, John and Harvey Richmond, all of Beaver; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Martha Church, 300 E. Tallmadge Ave., Akron. Burial will follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends will be received 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hennessy Funeral Home, 552 N. Main St., Akron.
Donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

Luther Nelson Cole
Luther Nelson Cole, 87, of Shady Spring, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, to his heavenly home with our Lord.
Mr. Cole was born March 12, 1920, at Flat Top, the son of the late Dolphus and Lillie Okes Cole.
Mr. Cole was preceded in death by his sister, Arbutus Fahey; brothers, Beecher and Alphon Cole; and son-in-law, David Vail.
Mr. Cole was a member and deacon of Flat Top Baptist Church. During World War II he was a welder in Newport News, Va., helping to build battleships for the United States. He was retired from long-haul truck driving and Wilcox Machinery.
Survivors left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of over 65 years, Neva Lilly Cole; daughter, Linda Cole Vail of Troutville, Va.; son, Larry Cole and wife, Sheryl, of South Lyon, Mich.; grandchildren, Jeff Vail and wife, Angelia, of Ypsilanti, Mich., Chris Vail and wife, Erica, of Eagle Rock, Va., Melissa Lehner and husband, David, of Farmington Hills, Mich., and Jennifer Cole of South Lyon. Mr. Cole was blessed with surviving great-grandchildren, Zachery Vowell, Joshua and Madison Vail of Ypsilanti, Dustin West of Eagle Rock, Maisy and Krystah Vail of Eugene, Ore., and Sophie Lehner of Farmington Hills. Also surviving are a sister, Cordie Nugen of Florida; brothers, Kermit Cole of Huntington and Ivan Cole of Manitou Beach, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Sarah Chapman and husband, Bill, of Shady Spring, Betty Moye of Shady Spring, Della Lilly of Huntington, Ann Matherly and Ruby Lilly of Flat Top, and Rita Cole of Lakeland, Fla.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring. Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday with visitation one hour before service at Flat Top Baptist Church with Pastors Mike McQuillen and Jack Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Those serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeff and Chris Vail and David Lehner; nephews, Ken and Mike Williams, Jarrell Matherly, Von Moye and Basil Adkins Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Nelson’s honor to Flat Top Baptist Church, Box 50, Flat Top, WV 25841.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Calvin C. Fitzwater, 83, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2008.

Marshall D. Gwinn
Marshall D. Gwinn, 81, of Beckley, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, peacefully at home following a long illness.
Born June 22, 1926, he was the son of the late Leonard C. and Minnie Ray Gwinn.
He was a longtime resident of Beckley.
Marshall was a C&O Railroad agent, operator and clerk for 42 years. He was retired. He was a TCU member and a World War II veteran, having served in Germany. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 53 years, Betty Jo Hess Gwinn; daughter, Margaret Holz and husband, David, of Lindside; son, Bob Gwinn and wife, Joyce, of Rush, Ky.; two brothers, Joel Gwinn and wife, Erna, of Louisville, Ky., and Jon Gwinn and wife, Shelia, of Laurel, Md.; sister, Leona Gwinn Brown of Winston-Salem, N.C.; four grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was loved by all.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Paul Blizard officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may gather with the family noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Ulysses Houston Sr.
Ulysses Houston Sr., 87, of 209 Seventh St., Beckley, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at the VA Medi-cal Center, Beckley, following a short illness.
Born May 24, 1922, in Holden, he was the son of the late Ulysses and Julia Houston.
Mr. Houston was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Ulysses Houston Jr. and William Houston; a brother, William Houston; and two sisters, Roselle Houston and Gertrude Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Kate (Viveha) Houston of Big Stone Gap, Va.; a daughter, Carolyn Withers of Big Stone Gap; stepson, Jerry Terry of Beckley; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Welcome Baptist Church, 206 Eighth St., Beckley, with Rev. David F. Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may call one hour before service at the church.

MOUNT NEBO — Larry Joe “Onk” Neff Sr., 53, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008.
Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at his home, 1729 Mouse Creek Road, Mount Nebo. Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service Sunday at his home.

John Frederick Oxendale
OAK HILL — John Frederick Oxendale, 59, of Oak Hill, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Born Aug. 21, 1948, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late William “Fred” Frederick and Ruth Elizabeth Tyler Oxendale.
He was an independent truck driver.
John was a member of Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Oak Hill.
Survivors include his brother, Donald Oxendale of Oak Hill; cousin, Benny Ray Brookes of Columbus, Ohio; and his three pet dogs, Casey, Frisky and Midnight.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Father Roy Gene Crist officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Friends may call one hour before service Monday at the funeral home.

Toni Lynn Painter
Toni Lynn Painter, 47, of Dorothy, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Charleston Area Medical Center.
Toni was born July 10, 1960, at Williamson, a daughter of Jacqueline Swafford Cooper Smith of Whitesville and the late Carl E. Cooper.
Toni was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Floyd C. Smith.
Along with her mother, Toni leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband, Jack “J.L.” Painter Jr.; two sons, Christopher D. Cooper and companion, Joanna McGraw, of Dorothy and Brandon Shane Painter and wife, Nikki, of Shady Spring; sisters, Carlene Nunley and husband, Larry, Penny Carpenter and companion, Jimmy Dean, and Barbara Meador and husband, Dennis, all of Whitesville; brothers, Larry Cooper and wife, Donetta, of Orgas, and Roger Cooper and companion, Carolyn, and Gary Cooper and wife, Sharon, all of Whitesville; grandchildren, Austin, Kendall, Emira and Ainsley; special nieces and nephews, Mark, Matt, Jacob, Nicholas, Johney, Jermiah, Hope and Amber; special friend, Kathy Long; and a host of many others.
Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Rev. Ricky Peters officiating. Entombment will follow in Pineview Mausoleum, Orgas.

Pauline Madge Richmond
Pauline Madge Richmond, 90, of Blue Jay, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, surrounded by her loving family, following a long illness.
Born at Blue Jay on April 22, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Timothy Mack Hart and Laura Webb Hart.
Mrs. Richmond was a homemaker and a member of Blue Jay United Methodist Church. She had made her home at Blue Jay for most of her life.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Richmond was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne O. Richmond; a great-grandchild, Jordan Richmond; three brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include her sons, Tim Richmond and wife, Linda, of Daniels, Roger Richmond and wife, Kathy, of Daniels, Gary Richmond and wife, Anna, of Beckley and Wayne Richmond Jr. and wife, Mitzi, of Beaver; daughters, Barbara Clower and husband, David, of Richmond, Va., Patty Martin and husband, Jennings, of Glen Morgan, Janet Mann and husband, Curtis, of Renick, Diana Barnett and husband, Roger, of Bluefield and Karen Hatcher of Beaver; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Shady Spring Chapel, with the Rev. Susan Rector officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Jay Cemetery.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

RAINELLE — Virginia Lee Tincher, 88, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea following a short illness.
Born Jan. 5, 1920, at White Sulphur Springs, she was the daughter of the late John Edward and Ruth Cox Buckland.
Mrs. Tincher was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Tincher, and a daughter, Mary Whittington.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas and wife, Becky, of Lexington, N.C., Ed and wife, Kaye, of Meadow Bridge and John of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two daughters, Anna Flint of Roanoke, Va., and Sue Dupor and husband, Steve, of Rural Hall, N.C.; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Mike Tincher officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
