FMC Corp. plans to begin cleaning up a 10-acre property in South Charleston next week as part of an ongoing remediation of its former East Plant site.
FMC manager of remediation Jim Bodamer says the first phase involves removing concrete foundations and any contaminated soils.
The work is expected to be completed in four to five months.
A bio-remediation pilot study will be conducted for the second phase, which involves cleaning up groundwater.
That part of the cleanup will occur in 2011.
Bodamer says the company can begin working with prospective buyers once the second phase is under way.
Several other parcels have been sold since FMC began cleaning up the former plant site in 1997.
