Coal producer Consol Energy has been snapping up land around two of its northern West Virginia mines.
The Canonsburg, Pa.-based company says the purchases have come in the past two months and total $3.8 million. All have been around the Shoemaker and McElroy mines.
Spokesman Joe Cerenzia says the purchases are just normal acquisitions as the company expands and adds equipment. Cerenzia says Consol’s reserves in Marshall County are expected to last for decades.
