All ROMEOs in Beckley are invited to a free breakfast today at The Villages at Greystone.

Retired Older Men Eating Out (ROMEO) is a social activity that offers a free breakfast to men of retirement age each Tuesday, said Greystone marketing director Melanie Meachum.

“It’s just a way for us to give back to the community,” said Meachum. “Retired men can come in and get a free meal instead of heading out and paying for one.

“We already feel like they’re out eating anyway, so why not give them an opportunity to have a free meal and some fellowship with our residents here.”

Meachum said there are “no strings attached” to the offer.

Greystone staff hosts the event so that the male residents of The Manor House at Greystone — an assisted living apartment building — have good fellowship and get to be included in discussions with other men of their own age.

“We usually have a huge spread of food,” Meachum promised.

Chef Gary Tanner prepares bacon and sausage, biscuits and gravy, hash browns and made-to-order omelets, said Meachum.

There’s also plenty of coffee.

A pancake bar and waffle bar may be added in the future.

Breakfast starts at 8 a.m. at The Manor House every Tuesday.
