A Fairdale man charged with shooting his girlfriend last month waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Raleigh County Magistrate Court Monday.

Wallace Ray Dean, 48, of Fairdale, is also expected to waive a second preliminary hearing today, this one pertaining to a charge of attempted first-degree murder, according to assistant prosecutor Chris Lefler. Dean’s bond may also be reduced from $1 million to a $100,000 cash or property-only bond when he appears before Magistrate Charles Humphrey.

According to State Police, 48-year-old Doris White was shot once in the abdomen with a 12-gauge shotgun just after 5 p.m. Oct. 21 on Longplace Road in Fairdale at the residence she and Dean shared. Police believe the incident resulted from a domestic dispute.

The charges and evidence against Dean will be presented to a grand jury for possible indictment.
