Equipment failure caused an ambulance to punch a hole in a Jan-Care Office Wednesday.

“We had an ambulance parked across from our corporate headquarters,” Jan-Care owner Rick Cornett said. “They had the ambulance in park and the emergency brake was set. No one was in the vehicle. It was sitting there for an extended amount of time, something like 15 minutes.

“For whatever reason it started drifting backwards. It rolled about 75 feet and struck our building. No one inside the building was hurt and no one was hurt as a result of the crash. We were extremely fortunate. It wasn’t an operator error or anything. It was equipment failure.”

The ambulance is already being repaired, Cornett said.

The building isn’t as lucky.

“The damage to the building is pretty significant,” Cornett said. “I couldn’t put a dollar amount on it, but it looks like a 4 foot by 2 foot hole in the building. There was damage to the masonry work. This could have happened to anyone.”
