Gifts to Mac’s Toy Fund come in all types, shapes, sizes and amounts from local people and those outside Raleigh County and across the United States.
And Mac’s is grateful for each and every one.
Special thanks go out to Faith Community Church for their drive to provide hats, gloves, mittens, scarves and some coats. The church, located on Grey Flats Road, participates every year in this way. Church volunteers also man the glove table at the distribution party.
Several Toy Fund representatives descended on Gabriel Brothers department store Thursday evening and raided the racks for piles and piles of warm winter coats for infants, toddlers, boys and girls. Special thanks to Manager Henry, Tasha in the stockroom and cashiers Daisy and Katlyn who helped load us down and tally us up.
But just because some new coats were bought doesn’t mean Mac’s still doesn’t need help from you. Good, clean, gently worn used coats for kids and adults are needed as well. Coats can be dropped off at Family Coin Laundry on Robert C. Byrd Drive. Donation boxes will soon be available at several area locations. A list will be provided Sunday in this same space.
Mac’s also needs donations of used bikes, toys and dolls so that the fund can meet the need of the nearly 4,500 children who will receive invitations through the Department of Health and Human Resources to attend the distribution.
If you would like to donate a bike and need someone to pick it up, please call 304-252-3874, or e-mail bsa.troop.103. beckley@gmail.com. The bike need not be in perfect condition; Boy Scouts of Troops 103 and 3 will make repairs.
Used toys and dolls should be dropped off at BJW Printing and Office Supplies, 3100 Robert C. Byrd Drive, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Mac’s Toy Fund
Since the times of America’s First Great Depression, a Christmas season tradition has been taking place in Beckley to make certain that as many of our neediest children can experience the holiday with some cheer.
Established in 1930 by the late Ted “Mac” McDowell, who was editor of the Beckley Post Herald at the time, Mac’s Toy Fund will hold its annual party on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. - Mac's Toy Fund — Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013
