Mac's Toy Fund prepares to make the holidays brighter

As you prepare for Christmas in your home, Mac’s Toy Fund is preparing, too. Mac’s is preparing to serve as many as 4,400 children, hoping to make this holiday a little happier for those who may be among the neediest of Raleigh County’s families.

One of the biggest needs is for good used toys. Because the distribution party is Saturday, volunteers will conclude the drive for used toys Monday.

If your children have used toys in good working order that they no longer play with, please consider donating them to Mac’s. They can be dropped off at BJW Printing and Office Supplies, 3100 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mac’s also provides each child with a new toy and uses the monetary donations it receives to purchase those toys and to provide materials that are used to make handcrafted wooden toys.

Other expenses include bikes, bike repairs and helmets, new coats and venue rental.

If you would like to donate a bike and need someone to pick it up, please call 304-252-3874 or e-mail bsa.troop.103. The bike need not be in perfect condition; Boy Scouts of Troops 103 and 3 will make repairs.

Shady Spring High School cheerleaders are conducting a used coat drive. The teens have placed large decorated boxes in businesses in Beckley, Beaver and Shady in which you can place donated coats.

New and used coats are being accepted for Mac’s Toy Fund at Chateaux Interiors in Beckley; Kroger at Beaver, Harper Road and Beckley Crossing; CVS in Beaver; Big Lots in Beckley; Chick-fil-A at Beckley Galleria; Family Coin Laundry; The Register-Herald; Walgreens in Beaver; Raleigh General Hospital; Chili’s in Beckley and all Shady Spring schools.
