Alpha Natural Resources has donated $3,000 to Mac’s Toy Fund to help purchase new coats for youngsters attending Saturday’s distribution party.
“This is a huge donation — the biggest we have ever gotten for coats,” said Dana Blankenship, who coordinated a used coat drive with the Shady Spring High School cheerleaders.
In conjunction with $1,000 donated for coats by Jan-Care, this money will go a long way to get new coats and the group expects to be able to double the number of new coats they were able to purchase last year, she said.
Blankenship expects they will be able to purchase over 200 new coats with Alpha’s donation.
She also pointed out that the group recently received a generous donation of 117 new coats from a church group in Bolt.
“This has been a great year for us and we expect to help keep a lot of families warm,” she added.
