CLAY — GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL

Alexis Brown made a reverse lay-up with 4.3 seconds remaining in overtime as the Class AA No. 5 Grizzlies knocked off No. 2-ranked Clay, 73-71 in overtime.

Shaelyn Shafer had a game-high 32 points and 15 rebounds for Nicholas. Lauren Young, Mykenzie Martin and Nicole Hamilton each had 11 points. Hamilton also had 14 rebounds.

Stephanie Gould paced Clay (12-2) with 28 points. McKenzie Barker had 20 and Katelyn Horrocks added 12.

Nicholas (12-1) plays at No. 1 Westside Thursday.

Fayetteville girls to host HIT semifinal

The Fayetteville Lady Pirates will host Gilmer County in the Hometown Invitational Tournament semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The game will be played at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building in Fayetteville.

Wyoming East 59, Scott 57


MADISON — Class AA No. 4 Wyoming East received 24 points from Brett Bowling to defeat Class AA No. 3 Scott on the road in Madison Wednesday. Bowling scored 12 big points in the decisive second quarter for the Warriors.

Josh Tunstalle scored 17 points and Austin Canada added 10 points for Wyoming East.

Matt Dolan led the Skyhawks with 17 points, Logan Webb added 16 points and Eric May scored 14 points.

Wyoming East (8-2) hosts Oak Hill today. Scott hosts Nicholas County today.
