Roundup: Summers escapes with 70-64 win at Wyoming East

Summers County 70, Wyoming East 64


Tyra Wynes scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Class AA No. 4 Summers County past upset-minded Wyoming East Wednesday.

Hayley Shrewsbury added 11 points, while Abby Taylor scored 10 points and handed out six assists. Avery Pivont grabbed nine rebounds for Summers County.

The Lady Warriors were led by a huge night from Chelsea Duncan with 32 points and 11 rebounds.

Chiara Jewell added 12 points and 13 rebounds to go along with 11 rebounds from Bre Pertee and 10 rebounds from Hannah Ford for Wyoming East.

Summers County hosts Scott Saturday, and Wyoming East hosts PikeView Monday.

ST. ALBANS — Mckenzie Akers and Hannah Preservati knocked down three 3-point goals apiece to lift the Class AAA No. 6 Tigerettes.

Akers led the way with 20 points and seven assists, followed by Preservati and Marissa Mullins with nine points apiece. Preservati also had eight rebounds, while Mullins and Khadija Payne grabbed seven rebounds apiece and Jessica Inman made four steals.

Breana Propst scored 14 points and Kaitlyn Propst had 13 for St. Albans (5-6).

Princeton (9-2) plays today at No. 8 George Washington.

MADISON — Class AA No. 4 Wyoming East received 24 points from Brett Bowling to defeat Class AA No. 3 Scott on the road in Madison Wednesday. Bowling scored 12 big points in the decisive second quarter for the Warriors.

Josh Tunstalle scored 17 points and Austin Canada added 10 points for Wyoming East.

Matt Dolan led the Skyhawks with 17 points, Logan Webb added 16 points and Eric May scored 14 points.

Wyoming East (8-2) hosts Oak Hill Friday. Scott hosts Nicholas County Friday.

SMITHERS — The Class A No. 8 Valley Greyhounds raced out to a commanding 56-14 lead and rolled past Van Wednesday.

Drew Bolen led the balanced Valley attack with 13 points and Eric McGinnis had 12 points.

Henry Barron, Keyshawn Payne and Joseph Eckert scored eight points apiece for Valley.

Brandon Elswick led Van with 14 points.

Valley (6-0) travels to Class A No. 6 Buffalo Friday.
