ROUNDUP: Westside wins rematch of AA final

MADISON — GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL

Junior guard Danielle Brown hit seven 3-point goals and scored 22 points as the Class AA defending champion Renegades won a rematch of last year’s state tournament final 50-31.

Faith Davis added 10 points and Morgan Spolarich had 8 along with 7 assists for Westside (7-0). Megan Endicott grabbed 10 rebounds.

All-state center Hope Lester was in severe foul trouble and scored just four points, plus 11 rebounds.

Jamie Dotson scored 12 points and Andrea Rankin had 10 for Scott (4-2).

Westside will host county rival Wyoming East at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2.

Lady Spartans win tournament

FAIRLEA — Bianca Andre scored 18 points to go with 17 rebounds and five assists, and Greenbrier East defeated Amelia, Va., 81-41 in the championship game of the Spartan Holiday Invitational.

Elizabeth Romeo scored a game-high 24 points for the Lady Spartans (7-0). Chloe Honaker and Lexi Tincher added 10 each.

Amelia (8-2) got 13 points and 17 rebounds from Jasmine Mitchell.

In the consolation game, Kaylee Dickenson’s 16 points and 12 rebounds helped Shady Spring beat Midland Trail 48-29. Morgan Hylton added 15 points for the Tigers (2-7).

Trail (1-5) was led by Marissa Workman’s 10 points.

CHARLESTON — The Summers County Lady Bobcats extended their record to 6-1 with a victory over Charleston Catholic in the Capital City Showcase.

Summers was led by Avery Pivont, who had 25 points and three 3-pointers.  Brandy Morrison had 16 points and Shelby Smith had 10.

Charleston Catholic’s Samantha Fletcher had 21 points.

CHARLESTON — Keith Mullins scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists to lead unbeaten Greater Beckley Christian in the Capital City Showcase.

Javonne Staunton added 17 points, four assists and three steals. Elisha Kidd scored 14 points.

Huntington St. Joe got 11 points from Travis McNeal and Michael Mays.

The Crusaders (3-0) host Van Friday.

CHARLESTON — Nick George led three scorers in double figures with 18 points as Charleston Catholic defeated Summers County in the Capital City Showcase.

Zach Caste added 16 points and Garret McCarty 15 for the Irish (4-1).

T.J. Smith led the Bobcats (3-2) with 20 points. TaRon Ayers followed with 16 — 13 at the free-throw line — and Josh Graham 12.

Summers hosts James Monroe at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Shady Spring 92, Richwood 64


RICHWOOD — Chase Conner scored 30 points as Shady Spring earned its first win of the season.

The Tigers trailed 47-42 with just under four minutes left in the third quarter. But Conner took matters into his own shooting hand, scoring 16 points in a span of 3:34 to put Shady ahead for good.

Jordan Meadows added 19 points and Steven Chhabra 10 for the Tigers (1-4), who host Independence at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the first round of the Shady Spring Holiday Tournament. Liberty plays PikeView at 5:30 p.m. in the other game.

John Bard scored 23 points to lead four Lumberjacks in double figures. The others were Zach Bennett (14), Braden Johnson (13) and Ben Weber (10).

Richwood (2-4) hosts rival Nicholas County at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
