ROUNDUP: Lady Bobcats roll past Bluefield

Summers County 65, Bluefield 53


BLUEFIELD — Summers County jumped out to a 12 point first quarter lead and held on to defeat Bluefield Tuesday in their season opener.

Brandy Morrison led all scorers with 24 points and 13 rebounds for the Bobcats.

Avery Pivont chipped in 11 points and Tyra Wynes scored eight points to go along with seven assists and seven steals for Summers County.

Destiny Simms led Bluefield with 19 points and Dazia Edwards added 15 points.

Summers County (1-0) travels to James Monroe Friday.

Nicholas County 56, Robert C. Byrd 34

SUMMERSVILLE — Mykenzie Martin scored a game-high 22 points and Shealyn Shafer had a double-double to lead Class AA No. 9 Nicholas County past Class AA No. 4 Robert C. Byrd Tuesday.

Shafer scored 20 points, grabbed 16 rebounds to go along with five blocks, five assists and two steals.

Sarah Barksdale led Robert C. Byrd with 10 points.

Nicholas County (2-0) travels to Richwood on Thursday.

Mount View 61, Independence 41

Jordan Younger scored 17 points to the lead Mount View (2-0) past Independence Tuesday in Coal City.

Ashleigh Belfiore added 11 points and Gezelle Brown tossed in 12 points for the Golden Knights.

Kelsey Hart scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Patriots, while Emily Fedukovich scored eight points.

Independence (0-2) travels to Wyoming East tonight. Mount View plays River View next Tuesday.

Valley 54, Montcalm 34

MONTCALM — Valley Fayette got scoring from eight players, including 24 points from Alexis Payne, in Tuesday’s win. The undefeated Greyhounds dashed to a 23-5 lead at the end of eight minutes of play and led 27-14 at halftime.

Miranda Kendrick scored 13 points and Leslie Kelley had eight points to lead Montcalm (0-2).

BOYS PREP BASKETBALL

Greenbrier East 83, Fayetteville 34


FAIRLEA — Rondale Watson led all scorers with 20 points as Greenbrier East cruised past Fayetteville in the season opener for both teams.

Bryce Woodliff added 11 points and eight assists, while Owen Browning scored 13 points for the Spartans.

Obi Romeo grabbed 10 boards and had four blocks for Greenbrier East.

Fayetteville was led by Aaron Krise with nine points and nine rebounds.

Greenbrier East (1-0) hosts James Monroe Thursday.
