ROUNDUP: Spartans take 27-20 win at Parkersburg South

Greenbrier East 27, Parkersburg South 20

PARKERSBURG — The Greenbrier East Spartans forced a key interception from Mason Yates in the fourth quarter that led to an Isaiah Kinder 1-yard touchdown run, erasing a 20-19 deficit to propel the Spartans past past the Patriots.

Kinder threw for 173 yards, rushed for 37 and threw two more touchdown passes (13, 33) to Colby Johnson to lead the East offense. Dalton Cline did the work on the ground with 209 yards on 29 carries.

The defense, which had struggled, held South scoreless in the crucial fourth quarter.

Greenbrier East (5-4) travels to Oak Hill Friday for a must win to keep any hopes of making the playoff alive.

WELCH — Sophomore quarterback Matt Ryan threw for three touchdowns, and intercepted two passes on defense to lead the Bobcats.

Ryan was 3 for 4 through the air, including two TD aerials to Isaiah Brown (39, 22) and another to Erik Lindsey (8). Brown also had a 30-yard scoring run, and T.J. Smith gained 66 yards on six carries and scored twice (12, 17).

Class AA No. 4 Summers County intercepted four passes, blocked a Mount View kick and held the Golden Knights to 31 yards on 34 carries.

The Bobcats will conclude their regular season next Friday with a game at Richwood.

MEADOW BRIDGE — Class A No. 13 Meadow Bridge raced out to a 38-0 first-half lead and rolled past Class AA PikeView 66-27 Friday.

Jake Parker only carried the ball 19 times, but finished with 255 yards and six touchdowns (3, 49, 15, 36, 16, 35) to lead the Wildcats.

Ryan Church (67) and Abber Gelsinger (4) added touchdown runs for Meadow Bridge.

PikeView was led by Daniel Brown with 91 yards on the ground and two touchdowns.

Peyton Richmond led the Wildcats on defense with 10 tackles.

Meadow Bridge (7-2) hosts Sherman next Friday.

CHARMCO — Corey Cox scored on four touchdown runs (8, 23, 22, 2) to lead Class A No. 7 Greenbrier West past James River, Va., 41-14 Friday. Cox finished with 81 yards on the ground and 35 more yards on two receptions.

Malik Boatwright added a 6-yard touchdown run and Jordan Grimmett scored on a 68-yard run for the Cavaliers, who led 41-0 before two late scores by James River.

RICHWOOD — The Class A No. 3 Valley Greyhounds scored 20 fourth-quarter points and forced five turnovers to defeat a pesky Richwood squad 40-9 Friday.

The Lumberjacks only trailed 12-9 late in the first half when Henry Barron-Houchins intercepted a pass at the 2 yard line to stop a score by Richwood.

Valley put the game away in the second half with five straight scores including two long touchdown runs in the final quarter by Dante Wilkerson (94) and Barron-Houchins (73) and a safety by Casey Stewart.

Wilkerson finished with 129 yards and Keyshawn Payne had 104.

Michael Adams led the Lumberjacks with 163 yards on the ground and kicked a 24-yard field goal.

Valley (8-0) looks to stay undefeated when it travels to Midland Trail Friday, while Richwood hosts Summers County.

Mayes found the end zone four more times on the ground (8, 2, 9, 32) and finished with 159 yards.

Andrew Woods scored on a 7-yard run, and lineman Hunter Coleman scored on a 54-yard interception return for the Grizzlies.
