Summers County 39, Meadow Bridge 32
Senior Isaiah Brown scored five touchdowns to lead Class AA No. 6 Summers County to a thrilling win over Class A No. 12 Meadow Bridge in a back and forth struggle on senior night.
Brown opened the scoring on a 36-yard pass from Matt Ryan only to see the Wildcats answer with two scores, a 15-yard pass from Ryan Church to Craig Peters and a 5-yard run by workhorse back Jake Parker.
Brown put the Bobcats back on top in the second quarter with two more touchdown runs for a 21-16 halftime lead, and then opened the third quarter with a 60-yard jaunt to push the lead to 27-16.
Parker broke free on the next Wildcats possession and was heading for the end zone when Brown chased him down and saved a crucial score as the Bobcats held on downs.
Parker would find the end zone from 2 yards out later in the quarter after a defensive stop by the Wildcats to close the gap to 27-24.
The fourth quarter opened with the Bobcats facing a crucial fourth-and-four from the Wildcats 34, Jaquan Ayers broke through the center of the line for a 19-yard gain that set up Brown to score from 15 yards out on the next play and a 33-24 lead.
After an exchange of possessions, the Bobcats lined up to punt late in the fourth quarter. The snap sailed over the punter’s head and Meadow Bridge had the ball on the Bobcats 15-yard line. Parker later scored from 3 yards out making the score 33-32.
Summers County recovered the onside kick attempt and tried to run out the clock on the last play and not give the ball back to the Wildcats, Brown broke loose down the sidelines for a 66-yard touchdown to end a wild night in Hinton secure the Bobcats, win.
Brown finished with 188 yards, Smith had 120 yards and Jaquan Ayers gained 90 yards for Summers County.
Parker did all he could to keep the Wildcats in the game with 208 yards on 37 carries to go along with his three touchdowns.
Summers County (7-1) travels to Mount View Friday and Meadow Bridge (6-2) hosts PikeView Friday.
