Woodrow Wilson’s junior striker Corey Acord says his favorite player is Cristiano Ronaldo, and this week Acord put on a performance even the Portuguese national and Real Madrid star would be proud of.
And while Ronaldo’s trophy case is missing the beloved Ballon d’Or, given by FIFA to the top mens player in the world, Acord will add a little flare to his growing soccer resume as being named the Register-Herald Soccer Player of the Week.
Acord scored five of his six goals this season in the past week; one against Morgantown and Huntington, both of which were 3-2 losses, and a 3-goal hat trick against St. Albans to help the Flying Eagles get their first victory of the season.
“Right now the wins aren’t quite coming together for us, but things are improving,” Acord said of the Woodrow squad (1-2-2).
Acord, who tasted the playoffs with both the Flying Eagles hoopsters and baseball teams as a sophomore, hopes to lead the Flying Eagles back to the playoffs, after failing to do so since Woodrow won the championship in 2010.
