Spring Valley dominates Spartans

FAIRLEA — Spring Valley had no trouble continuing its winning ways Friday night at Spartan Stadium. The visiting Timberwovles (3-2) put up more than 500 yards rushing for the third game in a row and avenged a humiliating loss last year to Greenbrier East in dominating fashion, 48-21.

After spotting Spring Valley a  7-0 lead to open the game, the Spartans (1-4) threatened to score. However, quarterback Isaiah Kinder was stopped short on a gutsy fourth down play deep in Spring Valley territory. On the next play, T-Wolves running back Ryan George carried up the middle for a spirit-crushing 92-yard touchdown.

After allowing yet another touchdown — Spring Valley's third on four possessions in the game — the Spartans showed signs of life. Following a botched onside kick attempt, Kinder connected with Cole McClain on a 39-yard pass. That set up a touchdown run by Kinder to keep the game close, but it last too long. Another T-Wolves touchdown put the home team down, 28-7, close to halftime. McClain dropped a wide-open touchdown pass from Kinder in the waning moments of the first half.

Spring Valley returned to its disciplined ground attack, tacking on two more scores and putting the game well out of reach. The Spartans added two touchdowns in the fourth, but it was too little, too late.

Despite having more than 150 yards in penalties, the T-Wolves had a running back ecclipse the 200 yards mark for the third week in a row. George rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns, while WVU commitment Elijah Wellman had 157 yards on 15 carries.

Spring Valley takes on George Washington next week, while East travels to Nitro.
