FAYETTEVILLE —
There was a thick cloud of fog above the playing surface at Fayetteville High School Friday night, but the stars were definitely shining as the host Pirates’ dynamic duo of Aaron Krise and Hunter Hernandez led their team to a 63-6 upending of visiting Midland Trail.
It was quite evident after the third play from scrimmage, a Hernandez one-yard touchdown run, that Fayetteville’ offense was executing with precision.
In all, he had three first-half touchdowns, putting the Pirates ahead 28-6 at halftime.
Hernandez finished a short evening (Fayetteville’s starters were pulled early in the third period) with 175 yards on nine carries and four touchdowns.
His longest run was an electrifying 88-yarder in the third quarter that put the Pirates up 35-6 and the game out of reach for Trail.
Fayetteville sophomore quarterback Krise also had a stellar game, going 7 for 8 for 193 yards and one touchdown, while kicking good on nine PAT attempts.
Chris Hill caught a 19-yard TD pass and had 54 yards on two receptions.
Midland Trail played well early and scored a first-quarter touchdown on a one-yard run by Jesse Smith.
Justin Grimmett kept things interesting for the Patriots, finishing with 21 carries for 113 yards. However, he left the game late in the third quarter with a knee injury.
