Changes made to baseball sectional schedules

When the Atlanta Braves would get rained out on TBS, the SuperStation would often play reruns of The Andy Griffith Show.

For fans of high school baseball, it’s time to whistle that familiar tune all the way to Floyd’s Barber Shop.

Mother Nature has once again dumped buckets of rain all over southern West Virginia, making a mess of the baseball schedules.

The result? A washout on an already delayed slate of sectional baseball games. While many games have been pushed back a day, high school baseball fans will get a real treat — extra baseball.

In Class AAA Region 3, Section 1 — which will be played at Shady Spring High School — Woodrow Wilson and Oak Hill will meet today at 4:30 p.m. The winner will take on Shady Spring immediately following the first game. The two losers will meet on Thursday for an elimination game at 7 p.m.  The championship game will be played Friday at a time to be determined.

For the Class AA tilt, Liberty and Summers County will throw out the first pitch at 4:30 p.m. today at Joseph H. Goddard Field at Independence. The winner will get the Patriots at 7 p.m. with an elimination game scheduled at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

All other games in the region will be played tonight — with everything pushed back a day from the original schedule.

For fans planning on making the trip to the ballpark this evening — be warned. The National Weather Service is predicting more showers throughout the day with a chance of precipitation at 60 percent.
