Roundup: Dragons beat Beavers in opening game of Jeff Treadway Memorial

St. Albans 7, Bluefield 2

 The Red Dragons scored three runs in the first and fifth inning, while Peter Theodus and Josey Hunt allowed just three hits to lead St. Albans past Bluefield in the opening game of the Jeff Treadway Memorial Wooden Bat Tournament at Independence.

Bobby Grishaber hit a home run and Joey Dodril drove in three runs to lead St. Albans.

Justin Mariotti, Cody Goins and Trevor Mullins each had one hit for Bluefield.

St. Albans plays Independence today at 11 a.m.

Wyoming East 16, Mount View 3 (5 innings)

NEW RICHMOND — Led by Hunter Simmons’ three hit, three RBI performance, the Wyoming East Warriors rolled up 16 runs and 12 hits to cruise past the Golden Knights Friday.

Derek Thornton, Hunter England and John Culicerto each drove in two runs apiece for the Warriors.

Austin Canada added two hits and Christian Hedinger had a double for East.

Mount View was led by Jarrett Cochran and Tashaan Vineyard with two hits each.

Wyoming East (16-4) hosts Liberty in a Monday showdown of local powers.

MAN — Valley scored five runs in the second inning and held off Man the rest of the way for a 5-3 victory Friday.

Drew Jones drove in two runs and Todd Coleman had two hits for the Greyhounds. Cody Winter and Druw Bowen added one hit each.

Cayce Mullins had a hit and an RBI for Man.

Valley (18-5) travels to Nicholas County Tuesday.

GARDNER — PikeView scored five first inning runs and held off a late Lady Spartan rally to defeat Greenbrier East Friday on senior night.

Lone PikeView senior Kendra Cecil blasted a bases loaded double in the first inning to score three runs to lead the Lady Panthers.

Haleigh Compton and Savanna Coalson each scored a run for PikeView.

PikeView (11-10) travels to Logan for a doubleheader today.

Katie Snodgress pitched a two-hit shut-out and the Lady Tigers piled up 15 hits to defeat Independence on senior night in Shady Spring. Snodgress struck out 12 batters and walked just one in the win.

Kelsey Robertson and Alexis DeMoss each had three hits for the Lady Tigers, while Katie Snodgress and Alexis Coalson added two hits apiece.

Brooke Foley and Katy Lilly each had one hit for the Lady Patriots.

Shady Spring (18-2) opens sectional play Monday with Woodrow Wilson and Oak Hill.
