ROUNDUP: Brown helps Summers County remain undefeated

GRAFTON — Summers County 27, Grafton 20

Isaiah Brown ran 20 yards for a touchdown with 1:30 left to play as the Bobcats remained undefeated.

Brown also scored on a 15-yard run and an 85-yard kickoff return. He finished with 108 yards rushing and another eight receiving.

T.J. Smith had Summers’ first TD on a 40-yard fumble return. Jaquan Ayers ran for 63 yards.

Summers will host fellow unbeaten Wyoming East on Friday. Both teams are 3-0.

Wyoming East 46, Sherman 6

NEW RICHMOND — The Wyoming East Warriors shook off a slow start, scoring 30 points in the second and third quarters to remain undefeated and roll past the Sherman Tide 46-6 Friday.

The Tide struck first on the initial series with a 73-yard halfback pass from Eric Lowe to Brandon Harrah, only to see East come storming back.

Coty Bishop scored on three touchdown runs (41, 1, 20) in the middle quarters to lead the Warriors’ explosion. Aaron Griffith found Christian Hedinger from 15 yards out, while Nick Walker cashed in on a 44-yard run and Michael Bland scampered 41 yards on a fumble recovery for a score.

Dakota White recovered a fumble in the endzone, Jonathan Culicerto had seven tackles and Steve Cook had two quarterback sacks for East.

Wyoming East (3-0) travels to Summers County Friday for a battle of unbeaten teams.

HICO — Meadow Bridge jumped out to a 24-0 first-quarter lead on three Jake Parker touchdown runs (4, 18, 2), and went on to crush Midland Trail 52-0 Friday.

Parker finished with 181 yards on 21 carries playing only the first half.

Quarterback Ryan Church had a 59-yard strike to Caleb Farr and an 8-yard run in the second quarter for a 38-0 halftime lead.

The Wildcats’ defense picked up the first score in the second half when Craig Peters picked off a pass and raced 42 yards for a score. Abber Gelsinger cashed in from four yards out for the final score of the evening for Meadow Bridge.

Kyle Killen had 11 tackles and a quarterback sack for the Wildcats defense.

Meadow Bridge (3-0) hosts the red-hot Fayetteville Pirates in a county showdown Friday.

SMITHERS — The Valley Greyhounds jumped out to a 24-0 first-quarter lead and survived a 20-point comeback by Van before pulling away for a 40-20 victory Friday.

Dante Wilkerson caught a 49-yard touchdown pass from Raeshawn Breckenridge and ran for two scores (47, 10) to lead the Greyhounds.

Henry Barron-Houchins scored from six yards out, and Keyshawn Payne scored on a 45-yard run and ran for 141 yards for Valley,

SUMMERSVILLE — The Nicholas County Grizzlies used a strong defensive effort and two touchdown runs (1, 5) from Wil Mayes to roll past East Fairmont Friday 33-6.

Mayes finished with 84 yards on 17 carries in the win.

Sophomore quarterback Stevie Hammond was a one-man wrecking crew for the Miners. He rushed for 131 yards, passed for 83 yards and accounted for four touchdowns and three two-point conversions — all in the second quarter.

Logan Taylor scored on a 72-yard kickoff return, and Jake Thayer threw for 83 yards and one touchdown for the Highlanders.
