ROUNDUP: Oak Hill falls at Point Pleasant

POINT PLEASANT — Point Pleasant 49, Oak Hill 15

POINT PLEASANT — Class AAA No. 4 Point Pleasant broke open a tie-game with 42 unanswered points to roll past Class No. 5 Oak Hill 49-15 Friday.

The Red Devils evened the score at seven early in the second quarter on a 17-yard run by K.K. Goodman. However, the Big Blacks answered with three Chase Walton touchdown runs (2, 48, 57), a 39-yard touchdown pass from Robert Yates to Jonathan Peterson and an 11-yard Austen Toler score for a 49-7 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Deonte Scruggs found Joey Re from six yards out for the final score for Oak Hill.

Oak Hill (5-1) looks to bounce back when it hosts Lewis County for homecoming Friday.

Westside 22, James Monroe 6

CLEAR FORK — Justin Cogar returned to the starting lineup for the first time since being injured in the pre-season to lead the Westside Renegades past James Monroe 22-6 Friday.

Cogar completed 12 passes for 205 yards, including a four-yard touchdown pass to Justin Kenneda and a 45-yard strike to Corey Bowles. Cogar also found the endzone on a six-yard run in the third quarter.

Mike Mullens led the ground attack for the Renegades with 170 yards on 27 carries.

Westside looks to improve their playoff chances when they travel to Class AA No. 4 Bluefield Friday.

Wyoming East 34, PikeView 27

NEW RICHMOND — Class AA No. 8 Wyoming East raced out to a 28-0 halftime lead and held on for a 34-27 win over the pesky PikeView Panthers Friday.

Aaron Griffith found Christian Hedinger for three touchdown passes (28, 35, 40) in the first half to go along with a 10-yard run from Coty Bishop to build the lead. Jacob Summe scored what proved to be the game-winner in the third quarter on an 11-yard run.

The Panthers rallied behind quarterback Chris McBride, who threw for 221 yards and three touchdowns (30, 25, 80), and a touchdown from Joseph Jennings. Ryan Roberts, Takota Bailey and Justin Hopper each had one touchdown reception for the Panthers.

Wyoming East (6-1) travels to Shady Spring Friday.

CHARMCO — Class A No. 8 Greenbrier West overcame four first half turnovers with a strong defensive performance to roll past Pocahontas County 42-7.

Corey Cox opened the scoring for the Cavaliers on a one-yard touchdown run. Marquis Frazier followed with sack of Logan Davis in the endzone for a 9-0 lead, However, Pocahontas County would strike back on a 67-yard touchdown pass from Davis to Andrew Morrison for a 9-7 score at the half.

The second half was all West as Frazier again came up with a big play when he recovered a blocked punt in the endzone.

Malik Boatwright took over from there with a 12-yard pass to Dustin Yoakum for a touchdown, and a 36-yard run for a touchdown.

The Cavaliers finished the scoring on a Chase McClung 11-yard run and a Yoakum 35-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

Boatwright finished with 131 yards rushing, and Cox had 109 to lead the Cavaliers offense.

Greenbrier West (6-1) hosts Webster County Friday.

MEADOW BRIDGE — Jake Parker ran for three touchdowns (14, 2, 16) and 235 yards to pace the Wildcats.

Craig Peters ran for 86 yards and scored a touchdown, while Lawson Patterson gained 57 yards and had one score in the victory. Peyton Richmond led the defense with 10 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception.

Jamari Perry had an 80-yard kickoff return for Mount VIew (1-4).

Meadow Bridge (5-1), ranked 13th this week in Class A, will travel to Class AA No. 6 Summers next Friday.

Tyler Sagraves threw for 175 yards and three touchdowns (18, 60, 13) to lead the Grizzlies. Joe Amendola, Jacob Hopkins and Josh Gregory were each on the receiving end of the touchdown passes from Sagraves.

Andrew Woods (1) and Austin Riffle (2) added touchdown runs and Wil Mayes finished with 111 yards rushing for Nicholas County.

Jake Thayer scored on a two-yard run for the Highlanders.
