The Midland Trail Patriots outscored Fayetteville 50-31 in the second and third quarters and rolled past the Pirates Monday in the opening round of Class A Region 3, Section 2 play.
Rickie Carter scorched the nets for 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Midland Trail. Tristan Minor added 14 points, Tyler Skaggs 11 points and Jake Grimmett had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Trail.
Zach Semple, Tyler McVey and L.J. White led the Pirates with 14 points apiece.
Midland Trail (9-14) travels to Charmco Wednesday to battle the Greenbrier West Cavaliers in semifinal action.
