Roundup: Greenbrier East gets revenge, beats Flying Eagles 9-4

Greenbrier East 9, Woodrow Wilson 4

FAIRLEA — The Greenbrier East Spartans scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take control and defeat sectional rival Woodrow Wilson Thursday.

Ben Lovett had three hits for the Spartans, while R.J. Massie and Ryan Windon each had a double and drove in two runs.

Keith Utterback, Ethan Level and Colby Johnson each added two hits for the Spartans.

Chris Metrick led the Flying Eagles with two hits.

Greenbrier East (10-7) hosts Perry McClure, Va. Saturday.

Wyoming East 10, Bluefield 1

NEW RICHMOND — Wyoming East knocked off Bluefield 10-1 to improve to 15-4 on the season, behind the stellar play of Derek Thornton.

Thornton earned the win for the Warriors and helped himself at the plate with a double and an RBI. Brian Lusk drove in three runs for Wyoming East.

Bluefield’s only RBI came off the bat of Justin Mariotti. James Libeberry had a pair of doubles.

Wyoming East will host Mount View today at 5:30 p.m.

SMITHERS — Arik McGinnis blasted a home run and had two RBIs and Druw Bowen struck out 12 batters to lead the Valley Greyhounds past Sherman Thursday.

Hunter Adkins had a single and an RBI, while Cody Winter added two hits and Raeshawn Breckenridge had a double for Valley.

John Hunter had a solo home run and Blake Brewer had two RBIs for the Tide.

Valley (17-5) travels to Man today.

Joey Lacek blasted a home run, drove in three runs and scored twice to lead the home-standing Liberty Raiders past Westside Thursday.

Dylan Keel had a double and an RBI and Austin Lyons added two hits and scored twice for the Raiders.

Breyer Morgan and Zach Brown had two hits apiece for Westside, while Drew Bragg and Austin Bailey each drove in one run.

Liberty (18-3) travels to Wyoming East Monday.

LINDSIDE — Austin Ransom struck out 11 Mavericks, hit a double, drove in three runs and scored twice to lead the Greenbrier West Cavaliers past James Monroe Thursday.

Dustin Yoakum added two hits, two RBIs and scored twice and Nick Boggess had four hits for the Cavaliers.

Cory Lilly, John Mustain, Derek Honaker and Caleb Bowen each had two hits for the Mavericks.

Greenbrier West travels to Charleston Catholic today.

HINTON — Sam Pauley surrendered just two hits and smacked 2 triples and a single to lead the Liberty Lady Raiders past Summers County Thursday.

Kaitlyn Hannah added two hits and Andrea Roles had a triple for Liberty.

Brooke Cole and Katie Walker each had a hit for Summers County.

Liberty, Summers County and Independence open sectional play Monday at Independence.

NEW RICHMOND — Chelsea Duncan tripled and hit two singles as the Warriors rolled to the five-inning win.

Breanna Pertee added two hits and two RBIs. Winning pitcher LOarissa Davis also had two hits and drove in a run.

The Warriors begin sectional tournament play Monday at Westside.

SUMMERSVILLE —  Whitney Robinson knocked home Caitlyn Tallamy on a single in the bottom of the seventh inning to help Nicholas County defeat Greenbrier East 5-4.

Robinson went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Lauren Young went 2-for-3. She also picked up the win on the mound.

Lady Spartan Alexis Tincher went 2-for-4.

Nicholas County will host Riverside today.

Michelle Snodgress struck out 13 batters and scattered six hits to lead the host Shady Spring Lady Tigers past Woodrow Wilson Thursday.

Mackenzie Milam drilled a home run and a double, while Alexis Coalson added two doubles for Shady Spring.

Sierra Richmond and Alexis DeMoss also had two hits apiece for the Lady Tigers.

Sarah Mestrovic led the Lady Flying Eagles with two hits.

Shady Spring (16-2) hosts Independence tonight on senior night.
