Four area players, including two who are with their teams at this week’s state tournament, will be playing in the North-South baseball games on Sunday.
Woodrow Wilson’s Hunter Greco, Liberty’s Joey Lacek, Independence’s Drew D’Angelo and Princeton’s Bo Williams all have been invited to play. The event will take place at Nitro High School.
Greco was a standout on the mound and at the plate for the Flying Eagles, who will play Cabell Midland in the Class AAA state finals in tonight’s late game. The second baseman was hitting .457 going into regional play, and was 5-2 with a 1.55 earned run average.
Lacek blistered the ball all season for the Raiders. The center fielder hit .515 and had a 1.312 OPS. He also had 12 doubles, 42 runs batted in and 41 runs scored.
D’Angelo had a senior season to remember after transferring to Independence from Oak Hill. The second baseman was batting .509 with 57 runs scored and 20 driven in from the leadoff spot. He has struck out only once and has committed just two errors on defense. The Patriots fell 7-3 to Herbert Hoover in the Class AA semifinals Thursday night.
Williams was 7-2 for the Tigers and suffered a close loss to Woodrow in the Class AAA Region 3 semifinals.
The North-South event will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday with a pro-style workout. A 7-inning doubleheader will begin at noon.
