ROUNDUP: Woodrow romps past George Washington 74-51

CHARLESTON — PREP BOYS BASKETBALL

Woodrow Wilson 74, George Washington 51

Class AAA No. 10 Woodrow Wilson  raced out to a commanding 42-20 halftime lead and rolled past Class AAA No. 9 George Washington Wednesday.

The Flying Eagles, playing without senior leader Andrew Johnson due to injury, snapped a five game winning streak for George Washington and raised their own winning streak to six games.

The Flying Eagles built there dominant halftime lead behind a swarming defense plus 18 first half points from Donte Nabors and 14 from freshman Nequan Carrington. Nabors finished with 22 points in the win and Carrington had 20 points.

George Washington head coach Rick Green had high praise for the Flying Eagles. “I thought we’d be more competitive, but (Woodrow) was just really good defensively early and then just crashed the boards. They got on the glass. They’re playing the way Beckley plays right now, and not like when they were struggling a little bit, said Green.”
