MONTGOMERY — Midland Trail defeated Richwood Friday in the opening round of Class A Region 3, Section 1 play at WVU Tech.

Emily Carte scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Patriots, while Marissa Workman scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Madison Syner also had 14  rebounds.

Hannah Brown led Richwood with 14 points and Demmi Smallwood had 13.

Midland Trail advances to play Meadow bridge Tuesday at WVU Tech.

Emily Butcher scorched the nets for 26 points to lead Victory Baptist Academy past Beth Haven Christian Academy 50-29 Friday to earn a spot in today’s West Virginia Christian Athletic Association championship game.

Eden Stack added nine points and Abby Gregory scored eight points for the Lady Saints.

Ashton Fry led Beth Haven Christian Academy with 13 points.

Victory Baptist Academy (5-6) plays Seneca Trail Christian Academy in the championship game today at 2 p.m. at Appalachian Bible College.
