Independence 49, Liberty 36
The Independence Patriots placed four players in double figures and outscored Liberty 28-15 in the fourth period to defeat the Raiders in the opening round of Region 3, Section 1 tournament play.
Tyler McKinney scored 15 points and Cody Collins added 13 points, while Shane Greco and Drew D’Angelo each recorded a double-double in the Patriots win. Greco scored 10 points and had 11 rebounds, D’Angelo scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Liberty was led by sophomore stand-out Levi Cook with a game-high 19 points.
Independence (5-15) advances to play Class AA No. 5 Westside Tuesday.

NEW MARTINSVILLE — Class A No. 4 Magnolia used their inside power to defeat Class A No. 6 Greater Beckley Christian Friday.
Mark Winters, a 6-6 senior, rolled up 34 points, including four 3-point baskets, and 6-6 junior Zach Willhoit added 18 points to lead the Blue Eagles.
Javonne Staunton-Bailey scored 15 points, Keith Mullins had 14 points and Elisha Kidd added 12 for the Crusaders.
Greater Beckley Christian (16-4) closes out the regular season today for Senior night, playing Mount Mission, Va. at 1 p.m.

SMITHERS — Class A No. 8 Buffalo rallied from a three-point deficit after three quarters to defeat Class A No. 9 Valley Friday.
Isaiah Robinson and Bradley Harris led Buffalo with 16 points apiece, Levi Jordan added 12 and Dillion Rich scored 10 points.
The Greyhounds were led by the game-high 19 points from Raeshawn Breckenridge, 17 points from Druw Bowen and 14 points from Eric McGinnis.
Valley (15-7) opens up sectional play at home Wednesday against the Meadow Bridge-Richwood winner.
