Robert C. Byrd 2, PikeView 2

CLARKSBURG — PikeView kicked-off its 2013 campaign with a 2-2 draw with Robert C. Byrd on Friday.

The Panthers led 1-0 at the half after Hunter Klein scored his first of two goals of the night on an Isaac Van Blaricom assist. Klein would add another early in the second half when Brandon Calfee fed Klein to go up 2-0.

With 20 minutes remaining in the match, the Eagles’ Kevin Steele converted a corner kick to bring Byrd within a goal.

Despite the Panthers effort, they were unable to hold onto the lead as Drew Lamasters added the equalizer with less than ten minutes remaining.

PikeView keeper Ed White had five saves on 6 Byrd shots. Flying Eagle’s keeper Justin Weeling had four saves on seven shots.

The two teams will battle againt today at 2 p.m. at Fairmont Senior.

CLARKSBURG — The Eagles scored twice late in the first half to overcome an early lead by PikeView.

Just 15 seconds into the season, Kari Shrewsbury found Madison May near the goal to give the Lady Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Robert C. Byrd responded as Samantha Buffey scored with 15 minutes remaining in the first half, and then Mariah Vu netted the ball past Panthers keeper Kristen Brinkley with less than a minute remaining before halftime to give Byrd the decisive goal.

Brinkley had four saves on six shots. Robert C. Byrd keeper Jasmine Matheny had five saves on 6 goals.

Byrd (1-0-0) and PikeView (0-1-0) will rematch today at noon at Fairmont Senior.

Woodrow Wilson 10, Ripley 0

RIPLEY — Junior Shannon Barajas and Sophomore Rebekah Cook each had a hat trick to lead the Woodrow Wilson Lady Flying Eagles to a 10-0 win over Ripley in the season opener. Cook also added two assists in the win.

Kaylee Hillard and Kerrigan Johnson each had one goal and two assists, while Sarah Akers added a goal and an assist for the Lady Flying Eagles.

Elizabeth Gramling also scored a goal and Breanna Cecil had an assist.

Emily Lane and Kristian Deemer each had one save apiece to preserve the shut-out win.

Woodrow Wilson (1-0) visits Parkersburg today.
