Greenbrier West 19, Van 1 (5 innings)

FAYETTEVILLE — The Cavaliers banged out 11 hits and scored 19 runs to roll past Van Thursday in the Spring Break Wood Bat Classic at Fayetteville

Jared Jennings smacked three doubles, Doug Yoakum had three hits and Aaron Ransom had two hits including a double.

Matt Goddard gave up just three hits and one run to capture the win on the hill.

Greenbrier West will play Nicholas County in tournament play today.

FAYETTEVILLE — Tyler Sigmon fired a three-hit shutout to lead the Nicholas County Grizzlies past Van in the Spring Break Wood Bat Classic at Fayetteville.

Tyler Sagraves and Will Mayes each had two hits to lead the Grizzlies at the plate.

Tyler Workman and Chase Vint each had one hit apiece for Van.

Nicholas County will play Greenbrier West at 3 p.m. today in tournament play.

FAYETTEVILLE — The Flying Eagles rolled up seven runs in the first inning and Hunter Greco surrendered only one run on two hits as Woodrow Wilson rolled past Fayetteville Thursday in the Spring Break Wood Bat Classic at Fayetteville.

Greco, Logan Wriston and Chase Metrick each had two hits to lead Woodrow Wilson.

Jake Holland and Aaron Krise had one hit apiece for Fayetteville.

Woodrow Wilson advances to the championship game Saturday. Fayetteville plays Richwood today in tournament play.

SMITHERS — Cody Winter went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs and Druw Bowen smacked a home run and drove in four runs to lead the Valley Greyhounds past Man Thursday.

Raeshawn Breckenridge also blasted a home run and Arik McGinnis added a triple in the win for Valley.

Druw Bowen picked up the win giving up just five hits and striking out nine Hillbillies.

Cayce Mullins led Man with a home run and two RBIs.

Valley (8-2) plays Saturday against Magnolia at 3 p.m. and Sissonville at 6 p.m. Both games will be played at Sissonville.

The Valley Greyhounds rallied from an 8-0 deficit, scoring eight runs in the final three frames to pick up the victory over Liberty.

Valley’s Cody Winter went 3-4 with an RBI and a double and Arik McGinnis was 2-for-5 with three runs and two doubles.

Liberty’s Joey Lacek had 2 RBIs and a triple.

   Liberty’s Zack Martin pitched a 5-inning no hitter over Pocahontas County giving the Raiders a 6-2 victory.

   Liberty’s Matt Bailey went 1-for-2 with 2 runs and an RBI.

   The Raiders will play Oak Hill today at 1 p.m. at Linda K. Epling Stadium.

POCA — Independence exploded for five runs in the top of the first inning and Brian Sexton pitched six scoreless innings to lead the Patriots over Poca Wednesday.

Sexton added two hits and drove in three runs to help his cause, While Drew D’Angelo and Wyatt Adkins added two hits apiece for the Patriots. Adkins also drove in two runs.

Independence also received an RBI from Jeremy McGinnis, Andrue Hughart, Daniel Kostenko and Tanner Ray.

Independence hosts Greenbrier East Monday.

RICHWOOD — Michelle Snodgress hurled a two-hit shut-out, added a double and two RBIs to lead the Lady Tigers past Richwood Thursday.

Mackenzie Milam added three hits and two RBIs and Alexis DeMoss had three hits and three RBIs for Shady Spring.

Emily Amick and Amelia Stark had one hit apiece for Richwood.

Shady Spring (6-0) plays Saturday against Ripley at noon and Woodrow Wilson at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at Woodrow Wilson.

Westside (6-4) will travel to Princeton on Monday night.

The pitcher in the Woodrow Wilson and Richwood baseball game in Thursday’s paper was reported incorrectly. Evan Westfall pitched the no-hitter, striking out nine Lumberjacks to collect the win allowing only one base runner.
