Local Roundup: Greyhounds’ McGinnis pitches 19-strikeout no-hitter

SUMMERSVILLE — The Nicholas County Lady Grizzlies broke open a tie game with eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Fayetteville Wednesday.

Shelby Groves, Sammi Sams, Lauren Young and Caitlin Tallamy each had one hit for Nicholas County.

Whitney Robinson surrendered just one hit and struck out three to get the win.

Nicholas County (9-11) hosts Greenbrier East today.

SUMMERSVILLE — The Grizzlies did all their damage in the first inning as they turned back the Panthers.

Shelby Groves hit two doubles for Nicholas. Lyndsey Butcher also had two hits. Winning pitcher Lauren Young fanned five batters while walking two.

Meadows and Higgins hit doubles for PikeView.

Nicholas (8-11) hosts Fayetteville at 5:30 p.m. today. The Grizzlies will host its sectional tournament beginning Monday.
