Local Roundup: Greyhounds’ McGinnis pitches 19-strikeout no-hitter


Valley 11, Buffalo 0

BUFFALO — Arik McGinnis fired a no-hitter and fanned 19 Bison batters to lead the Valley Greyhounds past Buffalo Wednesday. McGinnis also had a big night at the plate with a double, a triple and two RBIs.

Drew Jones added four hits, including a triple and Druw Bowen had three hits and an RBI for Valley.

Todd Coleman had three hits and three RBIs, John Riddle drove in two runs and Raeshawn Breckenridge had a double and an RBI.

Valley (16-5) hosts Sherman today.

Wyoming East 15, Summers County 1 (5 innings)

HINTON — Wyoming East pounded out 16 hits and sent 15 runners across the plate to roll past Summers County Wednesday.

Austin Canada had three hits, including two doubles, while Zach Whitten had three hits and three RBIs for the Warriors.

Christian Hedinger came in to collect the win from the mound and belted a double, a triple and drove in two runs to help his cause.

Jaquan Ayers had two hits for the Bobcats.

Summers County (14-4) hosts Bluefield today.

Brad Huffman had three doubles and five RBIs and freshman Tanner Ray added two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs to lead the Patriots past county rival Liberty Tuesday in Glen Daniel.

Drew D’Angelo added two hits and scored three runs and Andrew Hughart also scored three times for Independence.

Brian Sexton yielded just one run and two hits to get the complete game win.

Dakota Boulet had a hit and Joey Lacek had a double for the Raiders.

Liberty (17-3) hosts Westside today, while Independence hosts Nicholas County Saturday at the Jeff Treadway Memorial Wooden Bat Tournament.
