Roundup: Lady Mavericks win sectional

LINDSIDE — PREP SOFTBALL

James Monroe 2-8, PikeView 0-0

James Monroe swept a pair of games from PikeView Wednesday to capture the Class AA Region 3, Section 4 crown.

Mikayla Wickline pitched a two-hit shutout in Game One, striking out 11 batters.

Megan Bailey, Hillary Hersman, Samantha Ferguson, Kelsie Gillespie and Haileah Pickles each had one hit for James Monroe.

The Lady Mavericks’ bats were more alive in Game Two, winning 8-0 in five innings.

Wickline and Rebecca Ratliff combined on another two-hit shutout, and Megan Bailey had two hits and an RBI.

Bailee Jackson, Hillary Herman, Samantha Ferguson and Wickline had one RBI apiece.

Lyndsay Hatfield and Hope Nester had one hit apiece in both games for PikeView.

Fayetteville 6, Midland Trail 2

FAYETTEVILLE — The Lady Pirates broke open a tie game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and went on to defeat Midland Trail in Class A Region 3, Section 2 play Wednesday.

Kaitlyn Sisler was the winning pitcher giving up just one hit and had three hits in the win for the Lady Pirates.

Kelsey Norris and Allyson Kessler added two hits for Fayetteville.

Fayetteville advances to the championship series against Richwood today.

CLEAR FORK — Kasey Walls smacked a run-scoring double and brought home another run with a ground ball as Westside turned back county rival Wyoming East 3-1 in the championship game of the Class AAA Region 3, Section 2 tournament.

Pitcher Cassidee Blankenship went all seven innings on the mound for the Renegades. She struck out six and walked two. Wyoming East starter Emily Day had seven strikeouts in four innings of work.

Morgan Adkins had two hits and Morgan Wrenn doubled for the Warriors.

Westside (20-6) will play Independence Thursday at Coal City in the Region 3 semifinal.

Greenbrier East 2, James Monroe 0

FAIRLEA — Ethan Level, Ethan Boone and Jacob Frantz combined to three-hit James Monroe Wednesday as Greenbrier East improved to 15-8 with a 2-0 victory over James Monroe.

The Spartans only had four hits on their side, but they came at clutch times as East scored a run in the first and another in the fifth to provide some insurance.

Level pitched four innings to earn the victory, while Frantz earned the save. Ethan Boone had a double for the Spartans, while Harrison Martin drove in a run.

Micah Deskins was 2-for-3 with a double for James Monroe. Devin Carr had the Mavericks only other hit.

Greenbrier East will host Covington Saturday at 1 p.m.
