Greenbrier East High School will be searching for a new baseball coach after Eric Morgan, who coached the Spartans for the past three seasons, was hired as the new athletic director at Blacksburg High School. He led them to the state tournament for the first time since 1971 when they made the trip to Charleston in 2011
“I’m pretty excited,” Morgan told The Roanoke Times about his new position. “It’s a great opportunity to work with a lot of successful coaches in sports that have performed well.”
The 40-year-old Florida native played college baseball for the University of Miami and was a starting pitcher for the Hurricanes in the 1994 College World Series.
Morgan had been driving 80 minutes each way from Virginia to coach and teach at GEHS, and his drive to Blacksburg will be much shorter.
Greenbrier East finished 15-10 and lost to Princeton in the Class AAA Region 3, Section 2 final this past season under Morgan’s guidance.
