Weather big winner at HIT

— Snow wiped out most of the schedule Saturday at finals of the Hometown Invitational Tournament at the Summersville Arena and Conference Center, as six of the eight games were scrubbed.

The only contest to be played in the early session was Valley Wetzel beating East Hardy 76-58 in the 15th-place game.

Later in the evening, Buffalo secured a 54-50 win over Greenbrier West in the third-place game.

Tournament president Greg Crist was hopeful that some of the other place-winner games — culminating a statewide season-long tournament for 22 public-school teams — could be held later this season at a neutral site to be determined.

The title game between Valley Fayette (14-1) and Clay-Battelle (13-5) was among those games called off when Fayette County schools decided not to let its four teams travel to snowy Nicholas County on Saturday.
