Woodrow Wilson boys blast Nitro

Woodrow Wilson 79, Nitro 42

NITRO — Nitro, already without its leading scorer due to an injury Saturday, was no match for Class AAA so-No. 4 Woodrow Wilson Monday as the Flying Eagles eased past the Wildcats 79-42.

The Flying Eagles wasted no time establishing their dominance, exploding for a 42-17 halftime lead and forcing 16 Nitro turnovers.

Woodrow Wilson used a balanced scoring attack to defeat the Wildcats, led by first-team all-stater Donte Nabors with 17 points.

Jaylon Breckenridge added 14 points, while Nequan Carrington scored 13, Dai Dai Fortune nine and Chase Hancock chipped in eight.

Ian Lee led Nitro with a game-high 19 points.

Woodrow Wilson raises its record to 9-2 with its eighth straight win. The Flying Eagles will go for win No. 10 tonight when they host Class AAA No. 12 George Washington at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.

Independence 69, James Monroe 63

LINDSIDE — Independence received a double-double from its two big men, Cody Collins and Aaron Hunt, to defeat James Monroe on the road Monday.

Collins, a senior, led all scorers with 27 points and 17 rebounds, while Hunt, just a sophomore, tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Patriots.

Fellow sophomore Adam Tolliver chipped in 12 points.

James Monroe was led by Landon Shires with 12 points and Jacob McKlarney with 11 points.

Independence (2-10) hosts Meadow Bridge tonight.

HICO — The Cavaliers used a balanced scoring attack to defeat sectional rival Midland Trail on the road.

Corey Cox led Greenbrier West with 12 points, while Pat Hendrix added 10 points and Jared Jennings and Caleb Hamrick had eight points apiece.

Rickie Carter, hampered by foul trouble all night, led the Patriots with 11 points. and Jared Stover had eight.

Midland Trail (7-6) hosts Class A No. 8 Valley tonight, while West (7-2) travels to Richwood.

GARDNER — Zach Meadows scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Seth Wood scored 20 to lead PikeView past Summers County.

Jason Weitzel added 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Seth Meadows pulled down 11 rebounds for the Panthers.

Terry Smith led Summers County with 25 points, including five bombs from behind the arc. Dacota Thomas chipped in 14 points and Matt Ryan scored 10.

PikeView (5-4) travels to Shady Spring Wednesday, while Summers Country (5-6) hosts Bluefield.

HINTON — Whittney Justice scored a game-high 26 points, including a 14 for 14 night at the free-throw line, as Summers County defended its new No. 1 ranking.

Justice also had six assists and five steals. Brittney Justice added 16 points, Brandy Morrison 13 points and six rebounds and Abby Taylor 12 points.

Scott got 21 from Landyn McKinney and 19 from Maddy Weeks.

The Lady Bobcats (14-0) will host Princeton at 7:30 p.m. today.

The Lady Hillbillies were led by Morgan Conn with 20 points and Mika McCoy with 18 points.
