After having the entire week of school canceled due to snowy weather and subzero temperatures, coaches and players in Raleigh County were looking for a break — anything — to let them play games, or at least practice.
Now they’ve got it.
Raleigh County Superintendent James Brown has announced that schools will be permitted to conduct extra-curricular activities today between noon and 4 p.m., opening the door for much needed practices.
On top of that decision, Brown also stated the board will be approving extra-curricular trips on a case-by-case basis, pending road conditions.
As of press time, the following Raleigh County sports will be on as regularly scheduled.
n Shady Spring at Summers County boys basketball (Today)
n Independence, Shady Spring and Woodrow Wilson wrestling teams in the WSAZ Tournament in Huntington (Today and Saturday)
n Wyoming East at Independence boys basketball (Today)
n Woodrow Wilson swim team at Concord University (Saturday)
n Woodrow Wilson at St. Albans boys basketball (Saturday)
Parents and fans of those teams are encouraged to follow up with their coaches, as Brown did state the board will reevaluate if weather conditions change.
