Greenbrier West 53, Independence 44
Greenbrier West outscored Independence 16-7 in the decisive fourth quarter to defeat the Patriots in the season opener for both teams Friday in Coal City.
Josh Martin led the way for the Cavaliers with 16 points, while Chris Gabbert and Alex Hendricks each scored eight points apiece.
Shane Greco had a double-double for the Patriots with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Cody Collins scored 11 points and Drew D’Angelo and Tyler McKinney added 10.
Independence (0-1) hosts Westside Tuesday.
Meadow Bridge 56, Van 24
MEADOW BRIDGE — The Meadow Bridge Wildcats jumped out to a 34-9 first-half lead and rolled past Montcalm Friday in their season opener.
Cody White and Kaleb Farr each had a double-double for the Wildcats. White had 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Farr added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Tyler Honeycutt led Van with eight points.
Meadow Bridge (1-0) travels to Richwood Tuesday.
Greater Beckley Christian 69, Montcalm 37
MONTCALM — Keith Mullins poured in 23 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Greater Beckley Christian past Montcalm Friday in the season opener for both teams.
Javonne Staunton added 15 points and six assists, while Adam Cook scored 11 points.
Tyler Goins led the Generals with nine points.
Greater Beckley Christian (1-0) plays Teays Valley Christian on Dec. 22 in the Hoops Classic at the Charleston Civic Center.
Nicholas County 64, Richwood 62
SUMMERSVILLE — Nicholas County held off a fourth-quarter charge by Richwood to win the season-opener for both clubs 64-62.
Eric Peyatt paced the Grizzlies with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jared Tharp added 14 points, and Cody McClung netted 9.
John Bard had 17 points for Richwood, followed by Zach Bennett with 14 and Levi Mallory and Ryan Bennett with 11 apiece.
Nicholas County hosts Sissonville at 6 p.m. today.
Buckhannon Upshur 44, Pocahontas County 21
BUCKHANNON — Dalton Westfall scored 16 points to lead Buckhannon-Upshur past Pocahontas County Friday.
Jon McDaniels chipped in 14 for Buckhannon-Upshur.
Spencer McCoy scored 10 points to lead Pocahontas County.
Pocahontas County (0-1) travels to Webster County Monday.

LINDSIDE — Tyra Wynes scored 18 points, while Avery Pivont and Brandy Morrison each added a double-double to lead Summers County past James Monroe Friday.
Pivont had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Morrison had 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Haley Shrewsbury added 10 points for the Bobcats.
Emily McKinney led the Mavericks with 11 points.
Summers County (2-0) travels to Shady Spring Monday.
Fayetteville 55, Midland Trail 52
HICO — The Pirates led 25-18 at halftime and held on for a 3-point win.
Jessica Brown led Fayetteville (2-0) with 23 points. Erika Hogan added nine.
Kennedy Cochran scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Trail. Emily Carte scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds and three steals, while Hannah Legg scored 10 points and Marissa Workman had seven rebounds.
The Patriots (0-1) will host Meadow Bridge at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Tug Valley 42, River View 33
BRADSHAW — Hannah Armstrong scored 13 points to lead Tug Valley past River View Friday.
Amber Linville added 11 points for the Panthers.
Phyllis Waldron had a double-double for River View with 10 points, 13 rebounds and five steals.
Kiersten Dority added 12 points and Raven Kennedy had eight rebounds for River View.
River View (0-3) travels to Mount View on Tuesday.

MEADOW BRIDGE — Senior all-stater Chandra Harrah tossed in 19 points and fellow senior Sarah Fleshman added 12 points to roll past Van Friday.
Caitlyn White and Ally Redden added eight points apiece for the Wildcats.
Stevie White scored nine points to lead Van.

Huntington 69, Woodrow Wilson 29
HUNTINGTON — Huntington raced to a 41-16 halftime advantage to cruise past Woodrow Wilson Friday.
Kiona Evans led Huntington with 22 points and Dazla Coulton added 17 points in the win.
Jasha Payne led the Flying Eagles with 11 points in the contest.

BECKLEY — Montcalm rallied from a 16-4 deficit after the first quarter to hold their hosts to six points or less in each of the other periods.
The Generals’ Miranda Kendrick led all scorers with 16 points and added seven steals. Leslie Kelley provided 14 points, 12 boards and eight steals.
Kayla Hill had nine points to lead Greater Beckley Christian.
