ROUNDUP: Cook leads Liberty over Nicholas County, 48 54-48

SUMMERSVILLE — BOYS PREP BASKETBALL

Led by a double-double from Levi Cook, the Liberty Raiders (6-2) knocked off the Nicholas County Grizzlies (6-3) in a back-and-forth battle Friday.

Cook finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Austin Lyons had 13, including three big 3-point shots for Liberty.

Nicholas County was led by Jared Tharp with 18 points and Eric Peyatt had 14 points.

Nicholas County travels to Class AA No. 3 Poca Tuesday, while Liberty hosts Shady Spring Tuesday.

Tug Valley 74, Greater Beckley Christian 61

NAUGATUCK — Mikey Newsome led three players in double figures with 22 points as Tug Valley defeated Greater Beckley Christian.

Austin Brewer added 17 points and Thomas Baisden 12 for the Panthers (6-1).

The Crusaders (4-1) got 21 points, five assists and four rebounds from Javonne Staunton-Bailey. Elisha Kidd and Keith Mullins each added 16.

Greater Beckley Christian will visit Sherman Monday.

SMITHERS — Class A No. 9 Valley used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Class A No. 8 Greenbrier West to remain undefeated.

Raeshawn Breckenridge led the Greyhounds with 11 points,  Henry Baron added nine and Eric McGinnis and Zach Warden scored eight points apiece.

Alex Hendrix led the Cavaliers with 11 points and Josh Martin had 10 points.

Valley (5-0) hosts Van Wednesday.
