Summers preseason No. 1 in Class AA

CHARLESTON — Class AAA runner-up South Charleston and defending champions Summers County in Class AA and St. Joseph in Class A have been picked as the favorites to win state titles in girls basketball.

The poll conducted by a statewide media panel was released Monday.

Bridgeport was picked second behind South Charleston in Class AAA, followed by Greenbrier East, University and George Washington.

Scott, which lost to Summers County in last year’s Class AA title game, was picked second again. Westside was third, followed by Berkeley Springs and Ravenswood.

In Class A, St. Joseph was followed by 2011 runner-up St. Marys, Wheeling Central, Charleston Catholic and Williamstown.
