The Spartans scored five runs in the sixth inning to beat Oak Hill 11-9 Tuesday in the Spring Break Wood Bat Classic at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley.

Daylon Colley went 3-for-3 with a triple, double and single, while Josiah Solak was 2-for-4 for Greenbrier East.

Oak Hill’s Chris Hysell knocked in three runs, while Daniel Pritt and Aiden Crouch each had a hit.

Tyler Canterbury picked up the win for the Spartans while Pritt was awarded the loss.

BRADSHAW — Westside scored five runs in the top of the first inning and went on to roll past Mingo Central Monday 15-6.

Jacob Meade collected four hits and two RBIs and Dakota Dixon smashed a triple and drove in three runs to lead the Renegades.

Drew Bragg added a double and three RBIs, while Zack McCoy had two hits and two RBIs for Westside.

Caleb Spencer and Tudd Slone had two RBIs each for the Miners.

Westside hosts Mount View today.

Sports City U Basketball Academy

Sports City U Basketball Academy will hold a ball handling and shooting clinic Saturday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The address for the academy is 3542 Teays Valley Rd. Hurricane. 4-H Poker Run

Summers County 4-H Leaders and All-Stars are hosting a motorcycle “Poker Run” to help raise money for 4-H Camp 2014. The ride is May 17, with registration willat 10 a.m. Riders will leave at 11 a.m. The ride will start and stop at Willowwood Country Club.

Pre-registration cost (by May 2) is rider $20, co-rider $15. After May 2, cost is rider $25, co-rider $20. Price includes a t-shirt (for pre-registered riders) and a picnic after the ride. There will also be multiple door prizes donated by a variety of businesses and organizations. All prizes will be given out during picnic. Riders will play 5-card draw, getting cards at each stop.

Flournoy League fundraiser

The John A. Flournoy Youth Basketball League will hold a golf tournament fundraiser on June 7 starting at 8:30 a.m. at Brier Patch Golf Links, 1 Brier Patch Drive, Beckley.

The tournament is a four-man scramble format with shotgun start. Entry fee is $300 per team ($75/person). Lunch provided at the course at no extra cost.

There are numerous prizes, including hole-in-one, closest to pin, longest putt and longest drive. Hole sponsorships available for $100. The net proceeds will benefit the youth basketball league and the boys and girls basketball programs at Midland Trail High School.
