Wyoming East 8, Mingo Central 2

NEW RICHMOND — The Wyoming East Warriors made the best of five hits and three Mingo Central errors, and also turned a triple play to pick up the win 8-2 Wednesday at home.

Derek Thornton blasted two home runs and drove in three Warriors, while Hunter Justice added a home run, a double and drove in two runs also to lead the Warriors.

Austin Canada yielded 10 hits, but allowed just two runs to get the win. Canada also smacked a double.

Alex Lee, Matt Lester, Garth Simpkins and Todd Stone had two hits apiece for Mingo Central.

Wyoming East (7-3) travels to Bluefield today.

SMITHERS—  Drew Bowen struck out nine and gave up one earned run in a 7-6 victory over Buffalo,to help the Valley Greyhounds improve to 10-4 on the season.

Raeshawn Breckenridge went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, 5 RBIs and a homerun.

Buffalo’s Nick Gunter went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

Valley will travel to Fayetteville today at 5 p.m.

Kelsie Gillespie had two hits for James Monroe.

Sam Pauley had the lone hit for Liberty.
