Shafer leads Grizzlies over Richwood


Nicholas County 72, Richwood 19

RICHWOOD — Shealyn Shafer poured in 24 points and Mykenzie Martin scored 15 points to lead Nicholas County past Richwood Thursday.

Alexis Brown added 12 points for the Grizzlies in the win.

Jamie Bailey scored seven points to lead the Lumberjacks.

Nicholas County (2-0) hosts Sissonville Saturday.

Meadow Bridge 52, Liberty 29

Senior all-stater Chandra Harrah tossed in a game-high 18 points to lead the Meadow Bridge Wildcats past Liberty in their season opener Thursday.

Sarah Fleshman added 11 points and Courtney Mullins added nine points for the Wildcats.

Katana Bryant led the Raiders with 17 points.

Meadow Bridge (1-0) hosts Van tonight at 6 p.m.

Westside 74, PikeView 34

CLEAR FORK —Hope Lester had a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead Westside past PikeView Thursday.

Morgan Spolarich added 13 points and eight assists, while Megan Endicott scored seven points and had 11 rebounds for the Renegades.

Faith Davis scored 13 points, dished out five assists and had five steals also for Westside.

Hope Nester led PikeView with 12 points.

Westside (2-0) hosts Oak Hill Monday.


Greenbrier East 77, James Monroe 29

FAIRLEA —The Greenbrier East Spartans used a swarming defense forcing 23 turnovers to roll past James Monroe Thursday.

Rondale Watson scored 25 points and had seven steals to lead the Spartans and Bryce Woodliff added 16 points and five assists.

Obi Romeo pulled down 12 rebounds for Greenbrier East.

Chord Settle led James Monroe with six points.

Greenbrier East (2-0) hosts Alleghany, Va. Tuesday.

Wyoming East 87, PikeView 58

NEW RICHMOND — The Wyoming East Warriors used a decisive third quarter, out scoring PikeView 32-10 to roll past the Panthers in the season opener for both teams.

Brett Bowling poured in 28 points, while Austin Canada chipped in 15 points and Josh Tunstalle added 13 points.

Zach Meadows led the Panthers with 19 points and Logan McKinney had 13 points.

Wyoming East (1-0) hosts Class AAA powerhouse Woodrow Wilson Tuesday, while PikeView (0-1) travels to Bluefield Tuesday.
