Eagles stop Beavers 34-20 for 1st quarterfinal playoff win

From Staff Reports

CLARKSBURG — Mason Compton returned the game’s opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown as No. 4 Robert C. Byrd quickly proved it could match Bluefield’s speed.

The Eagles’ size and ability to control the line of scrimmage was the difference though as it beat Bluefield, 34-20 for the school’s first-ever win in the quarterfinals.

Compton added a 60-yard touchdown reception as well as two interceptions on defense. RCB’s Tre Cox added a pair of touchdowns on the ground and Iziah Hill caught a 16-yard touchdown pass, his 12th of the season.

Bluefield’s potent ground attack was kept in check with 167 yards. Montel Leggett had 85 yards to lead the Beavers.
