n Nettles fundraiser tournament

The second annual Paul Nettles 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament has been scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Richwood High School gym.

All proceeds from the tournament will go into a fund established in late 2010 to help Nettles with his medical and travel expenses. Nettles, a former Richwood athlete, teacher and coach, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in October 2010. He has undergone two operations and continues to receive treatments.

Teams will play 3-on-3 in the double-elimination tournament. There is a $50 entry fee and a maximum of five players per team.

Registration is set for 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 4, with the first games scheduled to tip off at 10 a.m.

Last year’s tournament brought back a number of former Richwood basketball standouts, including Jay Hewitt, Matt Donahue, Michael Young, Jeremy Rader, J.R. DeRito, Nick Johnson and Matt Carpenter. Also on hand was former Parkersburg South star Ryan Hopkins and Oceana’s Dan Fleenor. Most if not all of them are expected to play again.

For more information on the tournament, call Kristina Frame at 304-644-1380 or Jason Rogers at 304-651-1457.
