Levi Cook transferring to Huntington Prep

BECKLEY — The rumors have circulated for quite some time, but this time it’s true.

Levi Cook, the 6-foot-11 WVU verbal commit who played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Liberty High School, has confirmed to The Register-Herald his intentions to transfer to Huntington Prep.

Cook was named Class AA first-team all-state as a sophomore, averaging 23.5 points, 13.2 rebounds, 4.1 blocks and 3.1 steals per game.

ESPN.com’s Recruiting Nation lists Cook as the No. 1 basketball prospect in West Virginia for the Class of 2015, as well as the 16th rated center in the country.

Cook, who committed to WVU a little less than a year ago, will be united with former Mountain State Academy coach and Wyoming County native Rob Fulford, who has helped catapult Huntington Prep into the national spotlight and developed Andrew Wiggins, a University of Kansas signee and projected No. 1 pick in next year’s NBA draft.

Huntington Prep is the preseason No. 5 team in the country.

Cook will report to Huntington on Sunday.
