Roundup: Wyoming East stuns River View 10-6

NEW RICHMOND — Chris Cecil nailed a 30-yard field goal with 4:24 left in the game as Class AA No. 14 Wyoming East knocked off Class AA No. 10 River View at the War Zone Friday.

After a scoreless first half, Aaron Griffith hit Ty Treadway on a 15-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring in the second half for Wyoming East prior to Cecil’s kick.

Jordan Wilson scored on a four-yard run for River View late in the fourth quarter, but East recovered the onside kick to preserve the victory.

Wyoming East (4-2) travels to PikeView next Friday.

CHARMCO — Class A No. 2 Greenbrier West rolled up 451 yards on the ground on the way to a shutout win over PikeView.

Tyler Parker gained 126 yards on the night and scored twice (56, 3), while Malik Boatwright rushed for 119 and one touchdown (42). Boatwright also scored on a 73-yard punt return for the Cavaliers.

Chase McClung (7) and Corey Cox each added a touchdown run for the Cavaliers.

Greenbrier West (5-1) travels to Pocahontas County next Friday.

HINTON — Luke Moye hit Troy Helton on a 50-yard touchdown pass with 2:52 left in the fourth quarter to lift Covington, Va., past Summers County Friday.

Prior to the game winning catch, Helton had scored three rushing touchdowns (13, 10, 8) and Moye had scored from one-yard out for Covington.

T.J. Smith ran for one touchdown (1) and threw for another (14) to Eric Lindsey to lead the Bobcats.

Isaiah Brown (10) and Dustin Smith (1) scored one rushing touchdown apiece for Summers County.

Summers County (3-3) hosts Independence next Friday.

UPPER GLADE — The Highlanders scored five touchdowns in the second half, and used a stiff defensive effort to upset Class AA No. 8 Liberty Friday.

CLEAR FORK — Scott scored twice late in the second quarter and never looked back against the Renegades.

Westside quarterback Justin Cogar scored on a 1-yard run 1:32 into the game. Mike Mullens, who ran for over 100 yards, had a 52-yard TD run, also in the first quarter.

CLARKSBURG — Ben D’Annunzio scored on two touchdown runs (25, 40) to lead Class AA No. 6 Robert C. Byrd past Class AA No. 14 Nicholas County Friday.

Iziah Hill opened the scoring for Robert C. Byrd with a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown, before Tyler Sagraves answered with a one-yard run for the Grizzlies.

Aaron Taylor put Byrd in front for good on a two-yard run in the second quarter.

Will Mayes recorded 17 tackles for Nicholas County.

Nicholas County (3-4) is off next Friday before hosting Lincoln.

Bluefield 63, Gate City (Va.) 21

BLUEFIELD — Bluefield racked up 419 yards of offense and six Beavers found the end zone en route to a 63-21 demolition of the Gate City Blue Devils.

The home crowd was shocked when Gate City’s Robbie Hicks ran the opening kickoff back 91 yards down the Bluefield sideline for a touchdown. But the Beavers scored on four of their next five possessions.

Montell Leggett ran for 132 yards and three touchdowns. D.J. Edwards passed for 90 yards and one score, ran for another and got a third on an interception runback.

The Beavers, now 4-1, host River View next Friday night for their homecoming game.
