For The Register-Herald

HINTON —

The Skewes Family Foundation recently provided a $7,500 grant to the Summers County-based Beyond Wishes Therapeutic Riding Program.

The program is operated by Windle, Toni and Mareelyn McQuaig, co-founders of Beyond Wishes Therapeutic Riding Program Inc., near Hinton.

Working as a family for families program provides a safe, fun equine activity for individuals with disabilities, the co-founders said. Beyond Wishes is a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship Intl. member center that strives to educate the public on the benefits of horseback riding and ground therapies.

The Skewes Family, which operates the Ridge Land Company and Concept Mining, established the foundation in 2005 to provide charitable financial support to community development projects, as well as educational activities in surrounding counties.

To have this kind of support and confidence from such a huge foundation is very humbling, the co-founders noted.

Starting April 1, Beyond Wishes will begin its third season working with individuals with special needs toward goals that can carry over into improved function of all activities of daily living.

Anyone interested in participating or volunteering may contact the McQuaigs at 304-466-0431 or e-mail beyondwishestrp@hughes.net, The program is also on Facebook and at www.beyondwishes.org.
