BECKLEY —
Just as forecasts predicted, snow came pouring into southern West Virginia Thursday afternoon. Up to 8 inches of accumulation was expected through midnight.
Higher elevations could see up to 10 inches of snow, according to Robert Stonefield, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Blacksburg.
Andy Roche, a meteorologist with the NWS in Charleston, said the majority of the snow should have ended around 10 p.m. Thursday. A winter weather warning was in effect for most of the region through 9 p.m.
For today, temperatures are expected to be around the freezing point, but conditions should be dry. Friday night temperatures are expected to be in the teens.
Both Roche and Stonefield said skies should remain clear through Saturday night, with a small chance of precipitation as a system moves across the Great Lakes.
At most, Stonefield said the region would see a dusting of additional snow.
